“Won't start” can describe a blank display, controls that respond but never begin a cycle, a locked door, or a washer that fills and then stops. Recording that boundary is more useful than guessing whether the problem is the outlet, latch, controls, motor, or another component.

  1. Read the control panel. Photograph icons and exact text. Check the manual for control lock, delay, pause, and hold-to-start behaviour.
  2. Close the door or lid normally. Remove fabric caught in the opening, but never force, strike, or bypass the latch.
  3. Record the power state. Note whether other devices or lights in the room work. Do not probe the outlet or remove the washer cover.
  4. Note the sequence. Write down what happens in the first 30 seconds after selecting a cycle and pressing Start.
  5. Avoid repeated resets. Repeated unplugging or breaker cycling can erase useful display information and is not a diagnosis.
