“Not cleaning” can mean food remains in place, cloudy film appears, grit moves onto other items, detergent remains in the dispenser, or only one rack performs poorly. Those outcomes do not all point to the same cause. Describe the result, the affected area, and what changed before assuming the dishwasher needs a particular part.

Identify the cleaning pattern

  • Food remains on the same surfaces it started on
  • Grit or debris appears on otherwise clean items
  • Cloudy film or spots affect glassware
  • Detergent remains in a closed or partly opened dispenser
  • Only the upper or lower rack is affected
  • Dishes are unusually cool or wet when the cycle ends

Note whether the change happened suddenly or gradually and whether every load is affected. Loading, detergent, water conditions, cycle selection, and appliance faults can create overlapping results; a photo and timeline are more useful than a remote diagnosis.

Useful checks within normal owner care

  1. Review the selected cycle. Record options, run time, and whether the cycle completed or displayed a code.
  2. Check the load position. Note tall items blocking a rotating arm, nested utensils, or containers facing away from spray. Follow the manufacturer loading diagram for the model.
  3. Look at the dispenser. Photograph whether it opened and whether detergent remains. Do not force a jammed mechanism.
  4. Inspect user-removable filters only as directed. Let the tub cool, wear protection if glass may be present, and follow the manual. Do not remove secured screens or pump covers.
  5. Record visible spray openings. Note debris you can see without removing assemblies or inserting sharp tools.
  6. Avoid changing several variables at once. Switching detergent, loading, cycle, and rinse settings together can hide which condition changed the result.

Stop using the dishwasher for smoke, sparking, a burning or melting smell, an unusually hot cabinet or connection, a shock sensation, leaking onto electrical areas, or a cycle that overheats dishes or surrounding surfaces.
